Katt was pretty strong. I'd group her in with Cray, Tiga, and Rei. The reason she doesn't seem to do as much damage as them is probably because most enemies in II had less health than in III and IV, so there was no need for her to do as much damage as the others. Had Katt been in III or IV, she could've easily kept up with Rei and Cray, in my opinion. It's all a question of game mechanics.

Just in case, I am going it to repeat this post since as they always published this thread does not respond my previous questions to me, so…

I have another question that makes give to a rage the own CAPCOM and the NAMCO me. a day was looking for OST of video games and animes, when I arrive at the list of OST of game NAMCO X CAPCOM.

http://gh.ffshrine.org/soundtracks/2906

http://www.atomic-fire.com/index.php?page=music_ost_cam_nxc

I not find NOTHING of OST of BOF, is but, I am not mentioned in that game being the only RPG of the CAPCOM, So that BOF not this including in that game, even other great games like Devil May Cry and Resident Evil?.

In special BOF.

I guess it's because this thread is to answer specific BoF games' questions (and with this I mean in-game), not to comment or rant about unreleased games or the ausence of BoF features somewhere else.

...plus I can hardly understand what you post, and we speak the same language lol.

I am at the very end of BOF1, i just defeated jade. I have gotten agni and fought with him once before, but since then I haven't been able to use him! It has him under my magic spells, but it will not let me select him, and i really want him to fight tyr. Does anyone know why I cant use him? Also, how is agni the cheapest dragon?

Nina Windia
02-11-2007, 05:30 AM
if when you fight Try and she appear to be a child crying keep attacking normal (you'll see why later) you could choose Angi only when you fight Try the second time when her hair will be sort of like fire.... I don't want to make much spoilers so try to understand what I mean ^_^"

I just tried it. It still wont let me choose agni. I made sure Ryu's magic is all the way up but it still doesnt work.
I was able to use agni that one time, but ever since then it will not let me transform into agni. I dont get it :(

Is Karn in your party and using the fusion "Puka"? Because it won't let you use Agni if you're also using Puka, for some reason.

It's not just Puka. Any fusion that Karn is in will prevent you from transforming. Also, all characters have to be alive and no zombie statuses on anyone...I think.

level 27 ryu, stuck in tidal caves, npc won't let me through, how do I get by? one guide I found said something about timing, the others said nothing, the NPC says something about the tide going down, but the tide doesn't drop, I've walked around in circles for several minutes, and have stayed stationary for several minutes, the tide doesn't drop, can someone explain this to me?

Don't we have a helping gang thread for this sort of thing? Post your question there, and I think you'll get a faster response...

It'd be nice if we could merge this with it...

Are you sure it doesn't drop? I'm sure that in some minutes, there would be a notice that pop out and says that the tide has change,

If you talk to the guys in township they will tell you to head to tunland which can only be able to if you are riding a fish(Bof1) or a whale. so from Jean's castle head a little south (make sure both Jean and Katt are in your party beacuse you'll be needed their abilites) and go to a little place called Whale's cake. if you remember your released a guy selling Cakes from Torth house (you don't actully see it, but he should have been in the guy's prison) and the kids would be happy their father is safe and would let you explore what's below their store. do this part and make your way for tunlan Island.

hope I help :)

There are only two endings to BoFIII, and they come when you make an important choice near the end. It has nothing to do with whether you defeat Balio and Sunder. If you want to know what choice I mean, then read the spoilers...

When you confront Myria in the Orbital Station, she'll ask whether you want to give up your powers, and live in Eden, or choose you own path. Choosing your own path gets you the formal ending, with a final battle and credits. I'm told that Pure Again is a lovely song, but I never cared for it.

Balio & Sunders, cannot be defeated in Windya, only escape. For that single one this strategy is used.

used influencied in Balio & Sunder and transform in dragon used flame breath mattering if you damage Nina, (single it freed and attacked Balio and Sudners and soon she escaped of the fight ) later single it does not use followed influence and flame breath until they escape.

And last, the endings only it is according to you have responded it to Mirya.

Okay, I don't really have time to check if this has already been asked so...

In BoF I, I can't seem to catch the P. Fish (poison fish?) for Nina's tonic. Do I have to have a special bait? Or a fishing rod besides Rod2 or Rod5?

,-, I just wanna move on in the game!

Joshua
05-01-2007, 02:12 AM
I don't think it requires special bait. I think it depends on where you're fishing. Head to the South Castle, where Cerl was. Follow the dirt road that's there and you'll come to a broken bridge. That's where you have to fish from.

Nina Windia
05-01-2007, 05:32 AM
in the red sea (as state in the post above me) you MUST fish with rod5 along with some baits (both put in the ETC. section. you must equip both doesn't matter which bait). might take a few shots but don't give up :)

Hi all,

Firstly i'm a new guy here. I've been playing bof4 for ages (i know it's a bit outdated) but can't get enough of it. I also played suikoden 2, final fantasy 7(which i've completed 7 times and mastered), ff8 etc. I believe this forum is still active altough bof series are out ages ago?!
Anyway, i just want to know which masters in bof4 will be the most suitable for which chracter? (especially Ryu) since i wanted him to be as strong as fou-lo is when he reaches lvl 64. And which armor+sword+micellanious item will be the fittest for Ryu and which skills do you recommand for him? :) thank you all and nice to meet you...

The first Master you meet that Nina Windia speaks of is named Rwolf. He offers an additional point to wisdom and AP, but docks one for power. He's a safe Master, as in, he doesn't cause too many adverse changes.

The Abbess is probably the ultimate Master for her, but her stat changes are very, very heavy. So you might want to switch after a while.

I have some questions on BOF1-4, that I can not figure out on my own...

Warning: the questions and or answers may be spoilers for some.

BOF in general:

Anyone here have a hand in making the wikipedia article of BOF? cause it has some information stating that capcom has admitted the first 4 are the same world, but 5 was a separate universe. I dunno where they got that bit of news though...

BOF1:

Was Sara really helping the Dark Dragons? or was she brainwashed?
Also, I can not remember what happen to Jade, did he get killed?
Did Danc's fusion characters keep the component characters from learning new spells? I notice they gained levels but I never saw them get new spells...

BOF2:

Was Patty in fact Ryu's little sister? or was she just a Dragon Clan wandering around?
Anyone else see the similarity to the St. Evans boss monster followers and the Dark Dragons of the first game? Few of the Dark Dragons actually changed into a dragon form, most turning into other monsters like Clara's Arachne form...

BOF3:

Just after the time skip, Bandits are plaguing an area and Rei has been trying to run them off, when you confront the boss (unless I heard incorrectly) he states Rei and himself have been "given powers by God" promptly transforming into a monstrous boss creature, Does Rei's weretiger abilities stem from Myria?

BOF4:

Did Fou Lu start off hating humans? or did he come to that through the events of the game? I cannot remember if they record Fou Lu as an admired leader, or just a powerful ruler.

Nina Windia
05-15-2007, 05:33 PM
I'm going to say what I say every time I say someone who try to link the 4 togther. I believe that only the first three are linked, while 4 exsit just to make a new ppl look into bof without the need to play the other games. it has it's own title and story and has no remark to the others... that's why i think so.

okay I answered only what I knew.

BOF1:

1. Sarah was being under a spell made by Jade. she could have break it from time to time but not enough to completly go against him.

2. Jade is killed by the group. (he is one of the last bosses).

3. I don't know about it. I don't think so but I'll try to check it out as well.

BOF2:

1. the game hints it a lot. they never really say it, but let me just say that once Patty cried: "I want my big brother" I knew she was Yua.

2. good point never thought of it :)

BOF4:

he always thought of himself highly and better then them, but only the events in the game made him truly hate humans.

BOF 1: Yeah, I seem to recall she was being controlled. It's been too long since I've played though, so someone might want to double-check. I'm pretty sure Jade dies, but again, I can't remember.

BoF 3: His power doesn't necessarily come directly from Myria. It's a bloodline trait (or so I'm assuming, since only he (Worens) seem to have this ability). Uh, how to best explain this w/o going into religion...I'm going to leave this one just as "It's his heritage." and not go any further.

BoF 4: Actually, I can't remember anybody talking about Fou-Lu's past rule. It's not said whether he was a good leader, or a kind one, or anything about it. Only that he united his part of the world. I'd assume his rule might've started out well enough, but when he learned that he was summoned in order to fulfill some greedy human's desires, he might've decided to take a break for a while. I dunno, that's just speculation.

Kojiro_S
05-15-2007, 09:15 PM
Fou-Lu had to enter hibernation when his power reserves were depleted, which wouldn't have happened if he was a whole endless. Before going to "sleep", he promised to come back after 600 years (when his other half awakened), and the people promised he would have the throne again.

Of course that promise was broken, and instead he was chased and attacked.

In short, it's not that he hates humans, just that after awakening what he witnessed made him deem them not worthy of protection, but of punishment.

Right, I need some help in BOF IV. I finished the game the third time now, and I have all my characters at a rather 'repectable' levels.
This is what I have:
Ryu: Level 59
Nina: Level 57
Ershin: Level 58
Cray: Level 57
Scias: Level 58
Ursula: Level 57

O.K Now to explain the problem, I've defeated Trunked, I've defeated Treans, but why can't I seem to bring down those damn Riders in Fou-Lu's tomb.
I use a combination of this in each battle against healing opponents:
Turn 1: Nina uses I have Cray use War shout, and Nina use Megaphone, I get Ursula to use Triple blow. Triple blow, If succeeds, then it should pass on the effects of Megaphone.

Turn 2: Exchange positions between Nina and Cray so he performs warshout first. Nina then comes in with Fairy charge, and Ursula follows behind with triple blow again.

Turn 3: Have Cray move up with his attack first this time, swapping places with Nina. On this turn, he uses Supercombo, I can usually get about 9 hits in one go. Then I have Nina use fairy charge again, and Ursula still performs triple blow.

Turn three is repeated, with any nessicary forms of healing apparatus used when required.

ok thats right but you need 2 skills more

shadowalk to Ryu and fist tiger to Cray

more alls the dragons gens of Ryu

Ps. not to give mutant gene to the type that gives optional missions you to continue advancing.

in order to obtain the two you complete abilities you need:

- kill to one enemine with 10000 damage for speak the master Bunyan, this hidden its location, but is close (where it has the second fight of Fou Lou) for the "Shadowalk"
-kill to 700 or more enemiges for speak the master guard that disturb 3 times for "Fist Tiger"
-Steal skill "focus" of the enemies samurais of the Fou Lou Castle, also it gives the masters guardian of the beach.

now, it does the following thing:

turn 1: use " warshout to Ryu , Cray and Scias (one for one)"
turn 2: use "shield" in Ryu, Cray
turn 3: use "kaiser dragon in Ryu" (to have all dragons genes and salary found to endless dragons ) and use "focus"
turn 4: after of have power and defens to max, use "Fist tiger" with Cray, "Shadowalk" in Ryu and Scias (of Scias Skills is other name) and ready, defeat super boss, and the curse sword more life armor (believe) is yours

Thetis

Life Armor? No, the Rider drops the Cursed Sword after you kill him--most of the time. I actually had more trouble stealing the King's Armor (which is for Scias) than actually killing him.

As for the Mutant Gene, if you accidentally traded it, you can always get it back in the clear game save. I think you can anyway, but I haven't personally tested this.

The ninja or samurais of Fou Lou Castle, absorv elemental spells powers, for example, if you use "blizzard" in then, then they used frost strike, if use "ciclone", then use "wind strike", if do you not nothing elemental spell, then use focus or Shadowalk.

just in case if then steals your elementals strikes, have beign with yours respectives characters for your the elementals combos strikes, except Ryu and Ershin, although it can that it has "Flame strike" in you list of skills.

Here this each one of respective them its elementary strikes:

Nina: Wind Strike for Phoenix
Scias: Ice strike for ice sword
Cray: Searing Sand for your power tiger (I dont remenber your name ^^U)
Ursula: Holy or Flame Strike for Reflect.

Could anybody please help me? I've heard rumor 'bout Ruy's statue in Breath Of Fire III Fayries Village. That you should do smth & Fayries will build the statue of Ryu in fountain after you beat the game & do smth. It was a rumor or is it true?
Thank you in advance! :D

Ok, lately I've been re-playing the game in a GBA emulator. It's been a lot of fun.
All my characters are in level 40, except for Ryu(49), Nina(42) and Rand(42), and I just arrived at Rand's town after saving Gandaroof's memory.
There is this chest in a fishing spot in the island where Bo and Karn are(I've been training there for hours), but I simply can't get it. Could someone tell me where do I find the best rod in the game?
I also need help in choosing the people that can join Township.
Thanks in advance. :)

EDIT: And I really need I site where I can download the game's soundtrack. I can't find any. ,__,

I think the best rod you it's the charm rod is on a island going down to Guntz, inside a inn on a dresser

About the houses I always use

Poo: He sells a mondroop for 1000 and c'mon, his name is poo xD

Maclean: He show the "secret fishing spot", he's usefull if you cook

Baretta: The best weapon shop, with time...

Barose: He is the best. He teach you spells, but only if you have 1 hp and 0 mana -.- through is the only way to teach missile for your chars other than Nina and Bleu

Yozo: He increase you AP, if you bother to spent 10 minutes talking to him ¬¬

Summer: You can listen to bof2 soundtrack ^^

I don't remember the locations ^^" just Barose, he is in that memory tree "Gaadoroof" or something... if you leave there you can't get him again

Sigbru
09-02-2007, 02:52 AM
Yeah they both do, but Nina1 can turn back to normal, besides every windian at that time could change into the Great Bird.
After the windians lost that power she became the "guardian of the seal" that unlockes the power of the Great Bird, but you can't get back to normal

The reason WHY she is a guardian wasn't explained... maybe for guilt

I just wasted 2 hours+ of my precious lifespan in feeble attempts at getting salmon at river 2 to bite, but apart from purging the river of the neverending trouts, i couldn't get a hold of as much as a scale of a salmon. Perchance you might have any clues you would like to share with me as to how to capture this elusive aquatic being?

I have seen two different fishing help texts, and used level 3 of the lure the salmon goes for, with no result. Tried other lure, but to no avail.

Seriously, the fishing system in bof IV bites in comparison to that of III. Mainly because there aen't any shadows to even hint what kind of fish might be there and there is no limit to them.

I failed to see a forum that pinpoints with precision if any spoliers are to be aimed there, and i dont even know if there even is one designed for this purpose, so i would ask your pardon, in case i goofed in posting here.

Nevertheless, i would appreciate an anser, should you have one.

There aren't other fishing spots, with better luck? Are you early in the game, and no other spots are available?

Did you try the various techs and experiment around. Salmon are tough, but if you keep at it, you should get something. I achieved master rank in BoFIV fishing, but that was ages ago. Sorry I can't help more.

Sigbru
09-14-2007, 02:21 AM
Well, there are 3 different fish sprites
Ball - Tin - Fat (I made them up now)
Examples
Ball: jellyfish
Tin: Trout
Fat: Blowfish

Salmon sadly has the same sprite as trout ^^" I guess you still didn't go to thw Wind Tower right ? well for starters you need at least a Bambo road to catch a salmon, you can either got them trading in Windia(not sure) or buying in one of the shops at fae village... you can also get one if you didn't hurt that bird you fight with Nina

You usually know it's a Salmon because the red bar becomes bigger than Trouts and Rainbow trouts... it's really hard get a Salmon at that point, but you only have another spot when you're in the end of Chapter 3...

I can't really help much, but the Salmons usually stay at shallow waters, thought it's a river so it really doens't matter. I found them usually on the side that doesn't have the waterfall

perkyguy
09-14-2007, 08:26 AM
Well i am in the 3-rd chapter with so far only 1 spot available for me. However, the only other spot for a salmon features the damnable trouts as well so it really doesn't make a difference. I'm using a bamboo beating stick and as for the red bar matter: the trouts range to obviously small ones to some that fill about 40% , give or take 4% of the total red bar range, so i cant really tell by the bar either.

Also unlike in bof III the tech thingies doesn't seem to exactly be performed as they are portraited in the helping menu. Somehow they just dont happen. And in bof III i caught a whale with a wooden rod just for the heck of it ( finished the game 8 times or so)

the last boss sucks badly, you will mainly need Ryu's G.Dragon and party memebers who will keep giving him items to restore his AP. I used: Ryu, Nina, Katt and Blue. all of them speedy chars who can restore Ryu's AP fast enough while doing some high level magic themselves. (they are able to use revive items fast too) you can fight the last battle with them all lvl 40-50 or so, the only reason I've waited till they reached 60 was because I wanted to get Nina last spell.

Might i be so bold as to ask you people for a simple explanation on a matter most curious for me? After stealing fou-lu's royal sword, I decided to test its damage output. To my utmost surprise it turned out that the Fabled first emperor's pigsticker ( 96 ap +1) deals about 65% the damage of a Firangi (58 ap +1 hit). Most surprising, to say the least. I would've let it go with just a few blinks, however there is more to the story.

It would seem that i couldnt find a better weapon than the Firangi for Scias as well. Although i had access to a 108 power ( damascus i think) sword and later a 119 ( cleaver. Slicer never dropped for me and ill start levitating before i ever waste so much time fishing the render). Although the distance in power of the weapons is obvious, and the cleaver clearly stating that it would do immense harm to any draconic entity, it still dealt about 78% the damage of firangi's two strikes. And thats considering the cleaver has extra damage against the oponent and that the inital power difference is 58 against 119.

As an additional braintwisterr, when i tried to kill the 6 trean's the royal sword's average damage on a tiger fist ( when first in the chain) was around 113,000
Firangi tiger fist in the same setup was 211,000.

Is there some secret property to the firangi that i am not aware about? Because Scias never put it away once he got hold of it, and the only thing i replaced it with on ryu was a cursed sword, which i didnt use much, because firangi's 2 strikes work better with shadowwalk than the Cursed blade.

Thetis
09-18-2007, 01:24 AM
Isn't the Firangi fire-elemental based and that's why it's doing extra damage against the Treans? Though it's the Render that gets strong with every fight you win...however, that sword is water-elemental, and hence, useless against Fou-lu.

perkyguy
09-19-2007, 10:20 AM
Firangi's tooltip doesn't hint of any elemental damage

bookking99
09-20-2007, 01:10 AM
I believe Thetis is right, dude. I was in the same situation last week. I think it DOES do fire damage. I mean, firangi practically has the word "fire" in it. lol. But you're right. It doesn't say anything about it in the game...it's just what I figured...sorry if this didn't help...

dragontail
09-20-2007, 11:21 AM
hmmm...well the firangi is not an fire element it's based on who uses it....i guess
because when ryu used it it was like he did a fire damage...and scias a water element
but the best weapon i guess is the....(forgot it's name)you get from those swordfighter monsters in the castle....it's the best 2 hits sword i have seen....or the slayer...but there's a 20% chance you'll hit your own characters....

anyways.....does anybody know if you can evolove(i spelled it wrong i know) Kaiser or Aura??i've been making my gamepoints more that 80000 point already!!!(i spent the whole day chasing after those damn pigs!!)

Nope you can't envolve them, the Kaiser is the evoluted form of Aura, they keep the option of transforming to Aura because you couldn't use his breath attack until you get Kaiser... so I suppose it's just so you can see his (Lame) breath attack

I'm pretty sure Treans are weak against fire--I mean, they're plants, and in BoFIV, many of the monsters in that game had elemental weaknesses. It made sense with the intuitive combo system.

Isn't there an option in battle that lets you check these things?

Kojiro_S

Thetis
09-22-2007, 12:49 AM
No, I meant there was another option that every character had access to in the battle, like pressing square or something? It showed what could be stolen or dropped from the enemy, that is, if you have the item. Scias' Scan ability was more extensive, and unfortunately, was removed from the American version.

Sigbru
09-22-2007, 01:07 AM
Yes, if you pressed square in the battle when you are choosing commands it shows a description... most things only appear if you killed the monster thought
It appears HP bar, how much zenny the monsters give and a little description.
Normaly it says the monsters weakness in that description, but the in treans just say that they have a lot of hp and are good for training combos. Which is another reason why I think they aren't weak to fire, if they were desing as a training device. Besides treans aren't too much plant like, they seems more like holy trees

Thetis
09-23-2007, 02:55 AM

I found this on Gamefaqs. I hope it helps :).

Boombada can be very difficult to obtain. You will be asked to play
accompaniment to a bell melody with a drum (button A), and a tuning fork
(button B). The melody is 8 beats to a measure, 4 measures long:

- - -- _ _ __ ___ _- _-_-
........ ........ ........ ........

The accompaniment you must play to this is:

-A-B-- A _B_A__ B ___B_-AB _-_-A A
........ ........ ........ ........

If you manage to hit all the notes somewhere close to where they should be,
and don't play any extraneous notes, then you got it.

Thetis

The Rusted Sword powers up into the...was it the Slayer?...after you make a thousand kills. The Render, on the other hand, by some formula of which I forget the specifics, starts at fifty power, and depending on how many battles you've been in, becomes more powerful. I think.

Usually after you run out of water, you can take about 19 steps before you take an HP hit (Ryu flashes red). After about 4 of those you begin to take MAXHP damage (Ryu and screen flash red). When you reach the oasis, you can just rest and get your HP back. (It works in my file, should work in everyone elses...)

If that doesn't work, you can be a jerk and before you head to the desert, go get a full 99 Life Shards from Goo Titans, then go and bull rush the desert, if you make it, just replenish the lost HP with Life Shards.

it's probably damaged, but I don't have the pc version... it just stops after Ershin knocks the tree? she doesn't fall? I though you were just having problems finding a way to climb down ^^"
And you know you don't have to kill the bird right? If you don't harm it and just guard you win a bamboo rod. Just wanted to point that out...

okay listen. I have the PC version and I had the same problem.

I don't know if it can help much, but, just before this part, I hit a few random buttoms of the keybord and it worked out normal... so either try that, or try to play over and over till it worked out.

i know how to solve that problem, it worked on my computer, so i think it will work in your computers too... okay, lets say you're in the "non working scene", like Fou-Lu hexed by the carronade in Soma forest, or Astana Aqueduct. When the screen gets blocked (it always get blocked in a black-loading-screen) just minimize the game (Alt-Tab) and go out to desktop, the, go in the game again (Alt-Tab), it should work, or at least it will jump two or three frames on, (as example, in the carronade scene, you will hear Fou-Lu's voice)... that's all, just minimize ang get back, repeat, and it will jump another 2 or 3 frames on, and repeat and repeat and repeaaaat... until the scene have finished... and you can continue.

Im totally sure it should works...

The best hint I can give you is to try and look around and check for monsters. Also when you enter a place the game will let you know where you are (a sign with the place appear above) use it to find out, more or less, where you are and move on. If that doesn't work, just leave her body and enter again (You won't be needed to restart everything all over again. The places you cleared would remain that way).

Kojiro_S

For your reference, the monster indicator works like this:
-Sleeping Goblin = No random encounters (the exception is in Bando church).
-Scared-looking goblin = Rarely a random encounter (your level far surpasses the monsters' in the area).
-Dancing goblin = Normal random encounters
-Frantic dancing goblin = Monsters swarming around you. Random encounters will occur QUITE often.

In the queen's innards, you should check for rooms where there are still monsters (dancing goblin in the menu), and stay put in such rooms 'till the goblin is asleep, then move to another monster-infested one.

I'm playing BOF 3 and I'm about to fight Myria for the first time soon. Does anyone have any tips for me? She doesn't cast howling or anything like that which makes you confused, right? Cuz if she does I'm screwed. I only have one equip item that will stop that. :(

Thetis
06-14-2008, 12:48 AM
Only one? Yikes. Maybe you should train up a bit, work on getting better equipment? What level are you? I was pretty low-leveled when I beat her, and that pretty much ate through my healing items like crazy. The party I used was Ryu, Rei, and Peco (who of course was leveled up with everyone else!) Peco was hitting with Super Combo, but it's been so long since I've played that game...

milliennium_fox

I don't remember status effects bothering me much in battle but anyways...

I took Ryu, Momo and Rei. Go Weretiger with Rei, have somebody (like Momo) use that targeting ability (I forget the name...but the goblins use it.) so that the Weretiger aims for Myria and have Ryu go Kaiser. The battle ended not too long after that.

Strategy Spoiler Alert!

If you use Momo, equip her with a Holy Robe and Protectors. (There may be one more item to equip too, but I think that's all you really need) I've been able to make Momo virtually unkillable by status effects this way. Have her buff up the rest of the team before attacking with anyone, if anyone gets hurt, have her heal them.

The Ryu/Momo/Rei combo I've noticed to be quite effective against her. If you build Momo's Agility high enough, she'll heal anyone before Myria kills anyone. Pair that up with an Influence on Rei when he's in Weretiger and Ryu in Kaiser, and she'll be dropped in a few turns.

You can use COMMAND on one of them (can't remember which one), and the other will attack him. Of course you will need a lot of luck to survive the onslaught of the targetted one, but the end result is the same win or lose AFAIK.

I understood its possible to kill them if you are on level 28.

*SPOILERS!*

Unfortunately that is impossible, I tried that myself, using even things like Super Combo and such to kill one of them, didn't work.

You can use Influence on Sunder to get Balio to attack him.

It's mostly a war of attrition to defeat them in the dungeon, I believe you have to do enough damage to either one of them to get them to retreat, or wait a certain amount of turns. The two ways...

- Wait enough turns, Nina will wake up and run away.
- Do enough damage to either Balio or Sunder, Sunder will get frustrated and run, Balio in close pursuit of him.

You will get a nice little experience award for it. I'd recommend doing it when you have at least 100 HP, then just stock up on some Trout or Healing Herbs, Vitamins if you can, and then head to Mt. Myrneg to start the whole scene.

I'm playin' through IV for the umpteenth time. This time, however, I'd like to do an "Everything run". I'm up to getting the Dragonslayer from Yuna (so, near the very end), and I'd like to see how much I've done so far.

Things I HAVE done:
Masters complete: Rwolf, Stoll, Una, Njomo, Momo, Abbess, Kahn, Lyta, Kryrik, and Bunyan.
Dragon Genes: Aura, Kaiser, Wyvern, Behemoth, Myrmidon. (All)
Dragons upgraded: Knight, Weyr, Mammoth, and Punk. (All)
Dragon Evocations: Water, Mud, Sand, Wind, Grass, Wood, The Nameless One. (All)
Fishing - Caught a 250 cm whale, earning me 999 pts.
Fish caught: 30/30
Monsters killed worth mentioning: Defeated a Cyclops in two turns (necessary for it's rare drop, which I got).
Trunked

Things I have NOT done:
Masters complete: Gyosil and Marlok.
Fish crowned: 22/30
Max fishing points - 9274 pts (Rodmaster++)
Monsters defeated: Rider, Trean
Skills Learned: 70/76
GooKing Sword - Not Found
Since I haven't beaten the game yet, I can't get that sword that evolves once defeating 1000 enemies.

As you can see, though there are a lot of things I still have to do, most of them are almost complete. So, are there any things on my list that I can either get some pointers with, or perhaps are there any things not on my list yet that need to be added?

Kojiro_S

I find it odd that you killed a Treant, but not a Trunked. They look exactly the same and appear in the same area, but Trunkeds are weaker than Treants.

Then there's the always-painful task of getting a Gooking sword.

Yorae Dragon

Probably because they only "trasform" into Trunkeds after some turns. Yorae probably killed them before they had the chance =P

You could always max your fishing about now. I think the only fishing spot not open is the one where you get the Angler, but it will be once you clear the whole Elena thing

You could also try getting the Render and other rare items in the Manillos too

Yeah, Angler is the last fish that I need to complete the list, however, in order to complete the master Gyosil, I'll need at least 9500 pts in fishing. I have ~8800, so unless the Angler is worth 700 pts or more, I'll need to go back and catch the largest of every kind of fish that I can.

I don't see what's so great about the Render. Comparing it to the Firangi, which you only need a few fish for, it's weak. Firangi has 58 atk power, while Render has 50. Both add +1 Hits. The only difference is that Render is water elemental and has a Frost effect. I never use weapon effects, and I don't really care about the water elemental attacks...So really Firangi, which is WAY EASIER to obtain than Render, is better.

And yeah, I just went back to the destroyed village, and it was a Trunked that I killed.

Sigbru

The Angler gives 400 or so. Still, it helps. Although I think I only caught one without the Master Rod. And I crowed it

I think I heard once in a Gamefaqs FAQ that the Render power ups according to the number of encounters you've been, so it can be the strongest weapon in the game. I never tested it though. I had no patience to get 99 cards

And if you want to upgrade Mutant, the Sandflier minigame is always good at getting Gamepoints. If you're good at it, that's it

That's where I got most of my game points from. I've got 39k pts. right now. Is each dragon upgrade 10k? If so...

Edit: Nevermind, turns out I need 50k for Mutant to evolve. Well, 10k more to go...

Ooh, a BoFIV ultimate file! I came so close to doing it. I just needed to level up to 99 (I got to 95 before I got sick of it) and I couldn't catch enough Acherons to get the Star Dress...meh.

Is it even possible to get 9,999 points in fishing? I think I crowned everything...maybe I just need to catch even bigger fish than the crowning minimum...

Took me seven hours to get the Goo King Sword. Not fun. Especially since I kept getting flambed by stupid Goo Kings...ow.

I got the Render, but I didn't really use it, because in the final battle, as we all know, Fou-lu is a water elemental, the Trunkeds and Treans are weaker against fire, and...don't know about the Rider.

If the sandflier minigame leaves you wanting for some points, try the rafting minigame. That worked pretty well. Also, you need 75,000 points or so to max out Mutant's capabilities.

I got the Star Dress! However, the Angel's Vest that Warders drop in Chedo Castle are better, stat-wise. Got me one of them, too. supposedly they're the second rarest item in the game. I believe it too, because even after using Charm, I had to steal from the Warder for over half an hour before I finally got the dress.

Of course, by that time it had run out of AP, so it wasn't so hard. Just long. :D

I'm working on that now. Currently Scias (my second fastest) had Pilfer on him, but I might switch it over to Nina (she's faster, and has Rwolf's Haste). I've only killed one GooKing so far, but after stealing it's apple, I know I'm in for a tough time.

I've got 40 cards filled, so I'm almost halfway there! From what I've heard, Rider is resistant to Holy, I think. Not sure about other elements.

Actually, I find the "cattle rustlin'" minigame better. Double the points, albeit a bit harder, than the raft. I've developed a neat little strategy so that I can get most of the pigs in the cage right away. I stopped at just over 50k pts.

Also, you need 75,000 points or so to max out Mutant's capabilities.

And I'm almost sure that you know that Yorae, but you can always steal Fou-'lu's Royal equipment.

not only miss day and night (as in the game) as well as really going to die of thirst, you guide only for one thing ... "Night."

first of all have to walk all night, each time taking 16 helpings of water so your max hp not decrease every time you die of thirst.

the stars is the best guide for tourists in the desert just 3 stars really up my address according to the guide and 4 points (like a compass):

^* North Star N
<* evening star W
>*fake north star E
v South S

Remember that the north star is the greatest that the other stars.

Now according to the steps it tells you what you have to walk through the night such EXAMPLE: a step = a night walk (STRAIGHT).

Finally if you do the stars are properly put in its proper position for you to follow your path, because the very principle not be located as the second brujula stars, and walk under the stars as whether or not to be in place.

ok Lets Begin, first follow the north star for two nights so that the evening starhangs in the sky directly to the west. Then head east until theevening star sinks below the horizon and you can no longer see it (it

should be about two and a half nights). Once the evening star

disappears, head north again for about three nights, and you should

reach the Oasis.

Now there are also several ways, one is just in case the above
directions are hard to follow: First head north for two nights so that

the evening star is directly west and the fake north star is directly

northeast. Follow the fake north star, and you should reach the Oasis

after exactly four nights. And From the start, turn so that you're facing between the true and fake north stars (it should be 1 turn right from facing north). Now just walk in that direction until you reach the Oasis. Too easy, right?

try, is more difficult than the Gold Plains of BoF4 but always use a guide, or understand what explains the NPCs of RPGs.

as the last guide, be very careful when confused you enter the Battle Field, only see the stars at that time.

Even after finding the Oasis, there will be a traveler will tell you that there are hidden treasures such as the Royal Sword and the Death Claws, but that you no longer find it on your own.

whats the best equipment in Breath of Fire 4 and where/how can I obtain it?

Sigbru
02-08-2009, 03:34 PM
Well, the best weapon differs, since you may want to change from the most powerful for the 2 hit ones

Ryu:

Weapon: Goo King Sword, (152 power)
Drops from Goo King at the Imperial Castle.

Royal Sword, (2 hits, 96 power)
Steal from Astral Dragon (Final Boss)

Armor: Royal Armor (102 defense)
Steal from Tyrant Dragon (Pre-Final Boss)

Scias:

Weapon: Cleaver (119 power)
Steal from the Horseman's at the Imperial Castle

Slicer (2 hit, 78 power)
Drops from Kolpum's at the Imperial Castle

Armor: Kings Armor (100 defense)
Steal from Rider in the Mukto Ruins

Cray:

Weapon: Nunchaku (145 power)
Drops from Trean in the Abandoned Village(?)

Armor: Gideon's Garb (93 defense +10 attack power)
Drops from the Battle Suits at the Imperial Castle

Ershin:

Weapon: Mass Driver (104 power)
Steal from Chopam in Fou-Lu's Tomb

Armor: Chopam Plate (50 Defense)
Drops from Chopam

Nina:

Weapon: Rune Staff (72 power, CP +5, Wisdom +10)
Buy in Koshka from 8000Z

Armor: Angel's Vest (94 Defense)
Steal from Star Gazer at the Imperial Castle

Ursula:

Weapon: Culverin (110 power, Hits all)
Manillo Store in Astana

Armor: Angel's Vest (94 Defense)

For accessories, you can equip what it fits you. Some of the best you can buy in the Faeries Village Weapon shops. Like the Wisdom Ring (Wisdom +20) or the Speed Boots (Speed +20)

No... best Equipment in BoF4 is:

Ryu:

Set Dargon

Dragon Sword

Dragon Armor

Dragon Tear or Helmet (varie)

gives 30% in all its attributes.

Nina:

Weapon: Ouruboros (Beihl of Fou Lou Castle: will wait to see the enemy that gives you this weapon, and gives easy).

Armor: Star dress (with Manillo).

Set: Cupid Lyre (as the Love Bracet Bof 1 and 2, is the best thing for beautiful princess) *w*.

Gray:

Weapon: Nuchaku or Earthbreaker (Nunchaku i don't heard of this weapon, but it would be okay to give a look).

armor: Sig good advice, but if you do not even get it to use the Magma Armor is very good or the life Armor.

Set: but for now I advise the Speed Boots.

Ershin:

Weapon: Atomic punch (best for Robots)

Armor: Quicksilver (of Blacksmith).

Set: EDIT.

Scias:

Weapon: Slayer (Best Weapon, used after of have 1000 kills the Rusted Sword).

Armor: Life Armor

Ursula: Recommended Sig

then edit this, i see again what I put in the game that put the characters, but it is better, the Royal Sword and the Sword Gooking weapons are excellent, but I only recommend increasing power of Ryu.

SirWaWa

Im seriously thinking on leveling up all my characters in BOFIV...

Is the "3 bots" 195.000 EXP points the best strategy for leveling?

any battle can bring more?

how much EXP is need for upgrading from 98 to 99 with ryu?

RUROUNI
05-02-2009, 08:38 PM
I think the bots give you that exp, but it will take time and it´s not so easy. What i´m doing is fighting the 6 Trunked and defeated them in the second turn, so you win 24000 exp in 2 turns and they don´t fight you. I have now the level 65 with the 6 characters, so it´s not a bad training.

Oh, to get the GooKing Sword you can use that item that increase the % of drop items, i use it and after a lot of time, i get it.

SirWaWa

There was also that Orochi roaming around the Emperor's palace, you know the final dungeon? I think you're supposed to whack it with fire attacks until the experience is maxed. But each time, its stats go through the stratosphere, so watch out, or you'll end up dead.

The FAQ here details it much more coherently than I: http://www.gamefaqs.com/console/psx/file/196818/12971

increase the % of drop items? And when I need to get this percentage of drop item?

RUROUNI
05-03-2009, 04:16 AM
The Strategy that i used with the 6 trunked was: In the first turn, use War Shout, if you don´t have it, use Cray´s might in Ryu only, with Ryu use Last Resort (you need at least 700 Pow before the attack), and use Megaphone (i use it with Ershin). Ryu MUST have the Slicer Sword, to make a doble hit. Next, use another might in Ryu or another Megaphone, next Ursula Attacks with Searing Sand (Ursula with a weapon that attacks all the Trunked), and finally Ryu attacks with Tiger Fist (you can have Bunyan as master to have vision and don´t miss any of the attacks). You need to do a combo with Ursula technique and Ryu, then Ryu will have more blows.

And for the % to get the GooKing, it was not a item (my error), was a combo with Pilfer, Steal and Charm (to make it Lv 3).

This is something I've forgotten and have not been able to find a definite answer for elsewhere...

Breath of Fire III

Let's say I'm apprenticed with Bunyan early on in the game. Immediately after he becomes available as a Master. Then I go to Mt. Mynerg and get trapped with the whole Wyndia, Nina thing and can't go back to see him.

Because, if I remember the story right, you can't go back to Cedar Woods for a looooong time.

Now, I don't want to keep Bunyan as Ryu's Master because that negative AP gain is no bueno for him, but while I've leveled up a couple times under him, I never went back and got his moves.

If you leave your Master and haven't learned the moves, do you get the credit for those levels if you go back and see him later in the game?
I know your progress resets if, say...you leave your Master and you aren't all the way to learning their last move.

As an alternate question: when the hell can you back to Cedar Woods? If it's realistic, I'll see if I can keep Ryu below level 20 before returning. I've already done really well keeping everyone at low levels running from fights (I'm trying not gain any levels unless I'm apprenticed in order to maximize stat gain and learn skills in the most efficient way possible...it also just makes the game more challenging :D)

Nina Windia
05-14-2009, 12:02 PM
I'm pretty much sure that as long as you are under the master you will gain the skills if you reached the needed level, even if you don't come back to see him. I remember I forgot I put someone under a master then came back and got 3 skills, or so, but again, I might be wrong.

RUROUNI
05-14-2009, 07:23 PM
Yes, if you gain the levels needed for a technique and don`t quit the Master, he will give you the skills when you talk to him. i Triend it with Bunyan and get 3 skill at once.

For the other question, you can go back to Cedar Woods when you defeat Stallion, before going to Wyndia. So, Ryu in Myrneg, Nina and Ryu in Wyndia Graveyard, Mt. Boumore, Momo Tower, Mutant, the Tournament and finally Stallion.

Choc
05-19-2009, 10:18 PM
okay, I've got another one. Fairly easy, but I haven't been able to find the answer elsewhere.

What does the Dragon Tear do in Breath of Fire III?

According to a couple FAQs I found, it's a possible drop from the Dragon Zombie, although after several save / loads (charming every time) I've yet to get it. I'm basically just wondering if it's worth the time and effort. Nothing I've read mentions what the item actually does, only that it may drop from him.

RUROUNI
05-20-2009, 08:00 AM
The item does nothing, it´s only a Sell Item to get extra money, like Myria Icon and Ladon Icon. To get the Dragon Tear from the Faerie expedition, for what i know the Dragon Zombie doesn´t drop the item, he only has Power Food to Steal.

Hi all, I have a quick question about how the Township upgrade in BoF2 works. I have tenants in the first 3 houses and after I talk to the carpenter, he says he'll build more. So my question is does he complete this based on how far you progress in the game, or just the total amount you spend playing regardless of storyline progress?

Nina Windia
05-24-2009, 09:30 PM
In order for him to build more you must fill the first three houses with people. It has nothing to do with how far you are in the story! You just have to make sure the first 3 are full and then talk to him.

Notice: build more houses before you reach the grand tree Asaf part, otherwise you won't be able to get Borse (I hope I got his name right. He needs house number 4)

Howdy! Been quite awhile since I posted on this board. Anyway, I started playing the BoF ROM I have stored on my computer again, and this time decided to recruit Barose the Magician for my 4th house in TownShip. I'd heard that he can teach 4 of your characters a nifty spell, including Missle.

With the goal of having 4 characters all learn Missle, I raised his mood accordingly to the point where I got the rainbow-flashing Dragon Tear. After which I had him teach Missle to Rand, Jean, Spar and Katt(don't ask!).

However, I ran into some trouble actually using the spell in battle. While all the characters had the AP to use it, only Rand could actually cast it. For all others, it was simply greyed out and wouldn't allow me to select it.

This has frustrated me to no end as I seem to be the only person who is running into this. Has anyone had this problem? Any known solutions?

Edit: Update - Ran some more tests. Ryu, Rand, and Bow can learn it and cast it. Spar and Jean for some reason can't use it, no matter what level they are, but they can use the other spells he teaches, such as Flame and Freeze. Haven't tested out Katt yet.

I wanna wait and see if this is some kind of bug of the rom itself.
If anyone knows please post.

BMcDohl

The characters don't have high enough affinity to Ryu. The Dragon Tear must be flashing (rainbow colored) on the character. To do that, simply make sure you never offend them in dialogue choices and simply fight lots of battles with them. Eventually they'll get there.
Happens with my Bleu/Deis every playthrough since I get her as early as possible and she always learns it before I get her affinity maxed.

Nina Windia
06-22-2009, 09:27 PM
Actully the dragon tear can change if you do some leveling up as well.

I hope it is the answer, but I get the feeling it's the rom problem/bug. Ranadiel please try BMcDohl's advice and tell us if it worked out okay?

Ranadiel
06-25-2009, 03:54 AM
That seems right. I played through again, downloading another rom and deleting the old one. This time when I gave the spells out to Rand, Bow, Spar and Jean, the only one that couldn't use it was Spar. After checking, he's the only one without a rainbow Dragon Tear.

I'd actually never known the DT had any application to in game mechanics. I thought it was merely for story and show. Thanks!

Okay I ended up checking it up in Gamesfaq:

http://www.gamefaqs.com/console/snes/file/563530/5436

according to it:

"The carpenter you choose will immediately begin to work on the first 3 houses and will not finish until you rescue Jean from the Woods location and return to the overworld map. TownShip is now in phase 2. To get to phase 3, you must now fill houses 1 through 3 with tenants (yes, they must be full!). Now make sure you visit all your new tenants at least once, and then talk to your carpenter. He will ask you for 1000Z to begin construction on the last 3 houses. Pay him and he begins on the last set. If you do not have the money, merely talk to him again when you do have it. Now to get the carpenter to finish these three houses right away, exit and enter TownShip 8 times".

I remember someone said he was able to get close to max by items... but I'm not sure he was able to max them all the way...

Thetis

Well, there are three kinds of stat boosters available by stamp cards fishing in BoFIV. They cost three cards each. As for the other three, I tried looking for them on the map at the '!' points, and they're hard to get, admittedly, and it's annoying when your faeries keeping popping up and ask you to help them hunt, urgh.

I also tried to send them out to search for the stat boosters, but that has an extremely high fatality rate for your faeries. So while I think it's theoretically possible to boost stats to max, it'll just take a really long time to get the items themselves. If anyone has a better way, please tell me!

If I remember correctly, even using game mod cheats to gain items the maximum values in BoFIV were incredibly high.

First, I'd need to know, how long Ryu 3 was trapped in this chrysm crystal whatever blah.
I've read it before, but I don't know if it was true and I can't remember it anyway. ^^'

Second... I haven't finished BoF1 yet, but were the Light and Dark Dragons at war before BoF1 began?
I know that Myria was there before and so on.
What what did really happen?

Third, I've heard that either Nina 1 oder Nina 2 marries Ryu after the story or so... is that true and which Nina/Ryu is it?

Oh, and I also have two BoF2 game related questiona:
What exactly does the stat agility do?
Deis has 511 agility, while the others have about 200-250.
But still, Deis is not the fastest character, it's Rinpoo, because her vigor is the highest, followed by Ryu or Nina, don't know anymore.
I always thought agility is speed and the order the characters attack, but that's vigor... so what't agility?

Aaaand~, is there a way to change the characters' names like in BoF1, 3 and 4? ^^

Thank you~

I'll answer on the stuff I know :)

About BOF 3- I guess from the time he was really small, a baby, untill age 5 or 6 (or whatever age he starts with in the game)...

About BOF1- They were at war, but the war took place many many years BEFORE the first game. When the plot starts, the two clans are more or less in peace terms.

What we do know is that both dragon clans family decided to seal away their powers after the first goddess war, and we know for sure that the only light dragon kept it that way. A few years before the first game, the dark dragons decide to reawake their ability.

They start out by spearding out in order to conquer and search for the goddess keys, but it wasn't a clear war, more like the first steps of one. When the game begins, only then does the second goddess war starts.

About Ryu 1 and Nina 1: It's not confirmed that they did ended up together, but...

in BOF 2 Nina 1 says to Nina 2 that she married someone outside of her own clan. There is something of an offical comic that did make them ended up together but we are still not sure. But to be honest, I think they did...

There is a way to change the names of the chars in BOF1, in the Fish village of Prima under the sea, there is a shop which enable you to do it.
