Final fantasy 6
FF 7 was gatting too much attention :)
FF6, best RPG ever. Ever. |
I prefer FF6 to FF7, although FF4 is my all-time favorite.
|
I recon FF5 is the best of the FF series, puuuuurely for Faris. Something amusing about Faris' not that surprising plot twist...

The PS1 port of FF5 screwed up Faris when they made her talk like a pirate. |
The translation for the FF Anthology version was the one that Ted Woolsey did for FFV back when it was supposed to be initially released out here, but failed for one reason or another. Though I thought for the most part that his later translation projects for Square (FFIII/VI, Super Mario RPG, and others) were very good, FFV was just plain careless in spots.
Case in point: the Tonberry were renamed as Dinglberry. How immature is that? *shudders* Add that to Faris' cheesy pirate accent, and the butchering of her real name from Sarisa to Salsa...just ugh. Anyway, back to FFVI. Though I thought that though the Esper magic learning system was flawed, it was nice having characters that had unique attributes. The graphics were excellent for their time, and the soundtrack is one of the best of that era. The storyline was above average, and they manage to fairly evenly split the linear storyline to the nonlinear. One of the best games of all time, in my opinion. Fond, fond memories of this one. |
Yeah they did mess up the PS1 translation (Faris' accent makes me cry) - before that was released I played a fan translation though, and that did translate it really well.
Anyways *jumps back on topic - sorry oO;;* I've only just started on FF6 but I like having one main character - the structure irritates me a little. I'm sure I'll probably get mauled for saying that >> The graphics are really nice though, and the story is sound... And lets remember, no one beats Kefka :). |

Main characters in FF have been sharing the spotlight so much lately that it hardly even maters. (The main character is Terra btw) |
Terra is definitely the main character for the first half of the game, but several other characters play MAJOR roles, such as Locke and Celes. I think that the second half of the game doesn't really have a main character.
|
Terra's the most important, but I wouldn't ever call her the main.
Anyway, lovely, lovely game. The characters rocked. It was so much fun to watch the cutscenes. (Pssst...Final Fantasy IV wasn't translated by Ted Woosley when it became Final Fantasy II. Read the credits! A billion false rumours came out about this game, and they got so far spread that everyone thinks it's the truth. But it's not. There was an entire page on it, but I can't find it anymore.) |
"Final Fantasy VI" is definatly awesome but it's hardly the best CRPG ever. Story and character wise it was very good but there was some gameplay issues that kept it from being better not to mention the fact that there were several bugs in the game. VI was certainally a hell of alot better than VII though.
Far as main characters are concerned Tina is definatly meant to be the main character of the game and does it well until you get to the world of Ruin. Once you get to the end of the game though she is rightfully returned to center stage. Add in the fact that the world map music for the world of balance is her theme tune there is not question she is the main character of the game. |
Eh, I still don't see why, it's stretched pretty thin to me.

This point can't really be made without major spoilers, so anyone who hasn't finished FF6 may want to skip this post.
The story in the first half of the game revolves around Terra: her powers, her past, and her ability to feel love. She is the first character you meet, and the game opens with Vicks and Wedge speculating about her mysterious powers. The fact that her theme is used in the opening credits and as the World of Balance overworld supports the idea that she is the lead character for that part of the game. Freed from her enslavement by the Empire, Terra suffers from amnesia and struggles with who she is and how it came to be that she was born with the ability to use magic. ("But no HUMAN is born with the powers you seem to have.") After Terra flies away in Narshe, the party's focus is finding her; when the party gains control of Setzer's Airship, its first thought is to find Terra. Espers play a central role in the first half of the game. The Empire wants to harness them for the production of magical weapons. The Returners want to persuade them to join their cause in order to prevent the recurrence of the War of the Magi. Terra, as half Esper and half human, is the bridge. Although Terra's role diminishes during the World of Ruin, she is still an important character. Having regained her courage after defeating Phunbaba, she has finally learned that she is capable of love. As Arctic_Slicer pointed out, Terra plays a central role in the final confrontation with Kefka, and when Kefka is defeated, a large part of the ending is devoted to answering the question of whether Terra can survive in a world without magic. |
Pretty much what Valerie said, that and what other game can you play a Moogle? :p

Moogles make appearances in many other Final Fantasy games, but they're not usually playable. The only other game where you can recruit Moogles is FFTA. Some people also count FF7, since Cait Sith rides on a toy Moogle. Final Fantasy III (NES): personal guards of Dorga Final Fantasy V (SNES): Krile can communicate with Moogles. Final Fantasy VI (SNES): You can temporarily control 11 different Moogles to help Locke save Terra from the Narshe guards. Mog later joins as an optional character. (The other Moogles are killed when the world ends.) There's also a Moogle Suit (armor) for Strago and Relm that makes them look like Moogles. Final Fantasy VII (PS1): Cait Sith rides a giant toy Mog (Moogle). A Moogle rides the Chocobo in the Chocobo Summon. The Mog House game in Gold Saucer allows you to teach a Moogle how to fly. Final Fantasy VIII (PS1): The PocketStation accessory allows you to summon a Moogle that recovers the HP of all GF. Final Fantasy IX (PS1): Moogles deliver the mail through a system called Mognet. They also act as save points. Final Fantasy Tactics: Mogri (a Moogle) is a summon. It recovers HP to the allies in its effect range. Final Fantasy Tactics Advance: The only other game where Moogles are truly playable. Moogles are one of the races of Ivalice that make up your party. They have the following Jobs available to them: Animist, Black Mage, Gadgeteer, Gunner, Juggler, Mog Knight, Thief, and Time Mage. Montblanc joins you as a permanent ally. You can also recruit Lini, a Mog Knight as a secret character. Moogles also make appearances (but not as playable characters) in FFX, FFX-2, FF11 (online), and FFCC. FF2 (NES) has beavers that look similar to Moogles. Moogles also appear in games outside of the FF series. Final Fantasy Adventure (Seiken Densetsu 1): Chocobos and Moogles play a significant role in the story. (This is the first reference to Moogles in any video game. Secret of Mana (Seiken Densetsu 2): There is a village of Moogles in the Upperland Forest. (Being "Moogled" is also a status ailment.) Seiken Densetsu 3: There is a piece of armor called the "Moogle Smock" for Carlie. Two of Carlie's other suits look like Moogles, although they are named after different things. Secret of Evermore: In Nobilia's Colosseum battle, several FF6 characters make a cameo appearance in the audience. From left to right: Locke, Mog, Relm, Strago, Terra, and Umaro. (There are other cross-over references to Moogles in Square games, such as the Chocobo Dungeon series, Itadaki Street Special, and Egg Monster Heroes.) |
Yeah, I know all that, I said she was the most important, didn't I? Just not what I considered a main. Never said flat out "She wasn't the main." I said "I wouldn't ever call her the main character." Emphasis on the 'I' was missed out, I suppose.
It's just once I got control of Locke, she didn't seem like the center anymore. Even after the whole talk and such and such. No one was in that spot to me. And you CAN, technically, beat the game without her. In fact, you only need three characters. |
