And Nina 2 wouldn't look like herself if drawn with a more cartoonish style of wings that are smaller.
Make stuff fit the purpose of the character.
Here's a intellingent argue made by a specialist! Hawkie really knows everything about birds and wings. Teach us more about it and about birds, Hawkie-sensei!

That's my intention in helping you here. Create and improve your own style. Just like Hawkie, I copied(and still copy somethings) just to improve my skills. It's so enjoyable to have your own style, different from any style you know!

Just try to make his chin and his eyes a little more masculine. The main characteristics of a shoujo character is make feminine faces and eyes. Make his face a little more rude.

I made one more sheet with women body, as Grynward asked for. With Deis IV. I hope it helps you.

Here they are. Two sheets of side-view of faces. First, take a look at the sheet at the second sheet, then look the third one. The second sheet shows a side-view of a child(Ryu III), an adult man(Rei) and a woman(Ursula). The third sheet shows side view in three perspectives. from down to up(Teepo), from up to down(Shamanized Spar) and from back to the front(Cray).

I liked so much to make Spar, that I made a little pic of her. Take a look!

Awf d'uh! Did you have to make Ryu III so damn CUTE?! @_@
*dies* Made me want to request an art trade from ya, Bo. *shakes head* The expression is awesome.

Anyway, I'll tell more about birds if anyone asks. Merf.
And that will have to be written in a later post, too, 'cause at the moment it's morning here in Norway, and I'm having troubles not falling asleep.
    x3

    As fer copying styles...
Yeah. ^_^ It may take a year or so before your own style starts to take form, but it is there all along. You kind of get more confident in your drawing abilities as you practice, improve, it takes shape.
I use a lot of references for front view birds and felines, and have done some anatomy studies to get the basics. Mrew.

Also these headshots was useful. ^^ I've always wondered where the hair is s'pose to be on a side view... xD
    Thank you, Bo.

    And Spar is cute. ^_^

Another question. how does a hhuman look like from behind?
I know we usually dont draw piictures with characters seen from behind, but I'm just wondering.
    Mrew.

Actually that's one of my techniques. How could you not know that Bo of all artists?!

Excellent Deis pic! But why no advice on how to make a naughty female character look more sexy?!

How about the back, above head shots of a character?

I just remembered that I have trouble coming up with poses to keep the characters in my drawings from just standing there doing nonething.

Well, depends in what's your taste for sexy. Provoking women(like Nina 2-pic 1) or "Lolita" girls(like Nina 4-pic2). To make sexy woman, focus specially in her body(breasts, legs and "butt"). Take as important her facial expression too. Showing provoking pleasure(like Nina 2) or Lolita pure inocence(Nina 4).

This kind of question is very commom. First, you have to create the pose in your mind. then try to draw a sketch of the pose. Pay attention to the balance of the character's body. See if his/her's legs or arms are fitting well in their body and pose. Look yourself at the mirror to base the pose. Look how are the legs, arms, hands ,feet and body perspective. If nothing of it is working, you can copy a pose of a photo of yourself, from a mgazine or from any anime you want. The important is to pay attention in the body balance, OK? Any more questions about it, please ask! Bo will be pleased to can help Bleu-san!

Awesome work on the second one there, Bo.

    Also, what about Chibis?
    How large should they be?
And I know what classifies a chibi drawing already, I'm just wondering about body size. o.o

Well, Chibi are also called Super Deformed(SD), because they're a type of midget or cuty version of a character. There are many ways to draw SD. you choose the way you like.

Take a look at the Chibi Sheet I made. See the first Nina 4? She's in SD, but you can make her "chibier"(like the second) and "CHIBIER!!"(like the third). Even though they're super deformed. you have to follow all the original characteristics of the character. You can let pass some details, to make them more Chibi! Take a look in her wings. They're not so detailed. If I had made Garr, I woudn't have drawn all the muscle divisions in his body, just some. They're chibi, so you have to make them childish.

Well, you can choose. Make them in an child version(1st Nina 4) or make them like cuty big-headed midgets(2nd and 3rd Nina 4). Personally, Ilike to make both types. It makes my style more interesting.

  14. #44
Ah, you having difficulties with landscapes too? Mrew.

And I see. I diubt I could draw the first Nina 4. o.o
Thanks for clearing that out for me, Bo.

    But how about battle poses?
How do you draw a character if they are ready to attack someone?
I've got great difficulty with just that.
