I made a few name changes in chapter one. Guildmaster Ryu's name is now "Cecil." I wanted to go with something a little more original. Also, Lloyd Weaver's name is back to Atticus Crowley, which I had originally planned. The reason I changed my mind about using Atticus was because having "Atticus" and "Icarus" in the same sentence sounded really odd to me. However, after sleeping on it, I decided to stick with my original name. Lloyd Weaver is actually an original name Yorae Dragon made, which I used with his permission.
EDIT: Atticus is now officially Lloyd. Sorry about the confusion, but I'd prefer it if two main characters didn't have similar-sounding names.
Chapter II: Dark Omen
Part One
Fox, Icarus and Lloyd entered Geffen, the town of magicians. Already realizing they were late, the three rushed to Geffen Tower as fast as they could. Geffen Tower was located in the very center of town. It stood several stories tall and at the top was where mages graduated and became wizards.
In the distance, Fox could see two of his comrades, a red-headed male thief and a blue-haired acolyte girl. "Alexandria! Tribal!" he yelled to them. No response. They looked unconscious. Fox rushed over to Alexandria first. He knelt down and held her up in his arms. "What happened?!" he asked. "Young boy...monster...shadow...Fox...?" she mumbled. "She looks bad. Take these two to the inn! I'm going to take a look around," Fox said to Lloyd and Icarus. The two saluted and carried Alexandria and Tribal to the nearest inn. Fox entered Geffen Tower alone.
He walked down the stairs past the entrance on the right. On the left were stairs going up, which led to the training area for wizards. The area was littered with his dead comrades. Fox could tell this wasn't a battle, it was a slaughter. The musky stench of blood filled the air. As Fox approached the final gate leading into Geffen Dungeon, he began to get chills. He wrapped his arms around himself and was beginning to get the shakes. Geffen Dungeon was dark, but it was decorated with lit torches. After taking a few steps into the dungeon, Fox's chills grew worse. The knight entered a wide open area. A strange, purple haze filled the area. On the ground was some kind of symbol carved into it. It was a pentagram, the sign of the Devil! There were chains laying inside it, as well as something...vile. A decrepit corpse was bound by these chains, it looked like it had been here for a long time. His chills still worsening, Fox knelt down and examined the corpse. He noticed a badge attached to the body. This was the Alchemist's Seal! What was an alchemist doing in a place like this? Was it involved in some kind of ritual?
Fox's body then felt like it was encased in ice. All of a sudden, a great fear overcame him. He began panicking, sweating, and hyperventilating. After shaking his head a few times, he ran back out of the tower and into daylight. Lloyd and Icarus returned to the tower entrance to find Fox in shambles. "What's wrong, Sir?" Icarus asked. "You don't look so good," said Lloyd. "It's...nothing. I was just...worried about my comrades..." Fox muttered. "Well, Alexandria and Tribal should recover, but..." Lloyd paused. "I think the rest of the platoon is dead." Fox nodded. "Yes. There wasn't any sign of survivors." He punched his fist in the ground angrily. "It's all my fault! I should've been there to help them!" he shouted. "No. Don't go beating yourself up. This is that monster's fault, not yours," Icarus said. "You're right. Gentlemen, we're dealing with a real threat here. Whatever this...shadow monster is, it must be stopped. Will you assist me in this search?" Fox said to his comrades. Lloyd and Icarus both saluted. "Yes, Sir!" they said in unison.
"Who are you, demon? And what is your motive? I'll find you, and avenge my comrades!"
