The Mana Bar in Brisbane, Australia has the Breath of Fire drink too. If I drank alcohol, I'd try it and let you know.
I love this site, you guys have no idea.
I'd try it. I'd try most anything, but.
What is ginger beer and where can i get it? I also love the drunken moogle, but entered in ages lol
The thing here is that they usually use rare or uncommon luquors, like blue curacao. I haven't seen that in ages. Also, fro all of us who are in the legal drinking age, what about making our own cocktails? I have an idea for a Bo/Bow/Scias one using Kahlua lol
Ginger beer from what I've found out is nothing more than beer (Sapporo) and ginger syrup.
correction: after looking at the Mana bar website the beer that they use is actually only made in Australia.

I have no idea what the difference is, but it looks like I can pick some up locally, maybe I'll try to find out by the end of the week.

I've had homemade ginger beer while I was on vacation at a Caribbean island. I ate it with goat stew, and it was a very good meal. I tried to look for commerical venues of the product, and I found one made by Goya, but I didn't like it. I did find a British store which sold cans of the stuff which was more to my liking. I guess you can't beat homemade though.
It's a pretty cool image, if I do say so myself. I'll leave it up, though this story may never be finished!
Hey guys, sorry about taking forever to figure this cocktail out. Sadly I don't think its right, but it does taste good! I think the cocktail recipe from the mana bar is actually a variation on the drink called the Moscow Mule as it pretty much has the same ingredients, so that's what I based my measurements on. The 1st time I made the drink it was a disaster. I originally thought that the red color in the drinks photo from the mana bar came from the tobacco. As you can imagine it was too spicy and was a disaster, but not before adding 4 tablespoons of Tabasco. » Spoilers Show/Hide
Now either they Photoshopped it to be that red color or they used another ingredient they aren't telling us. I doubt its red food coloring since I've never seen a cocktail recipe that had it. Fast forward a couple of days and it hit me to try grenadine. For those who don't know it's a cherry syrup that's very red and every bar has some. This is the part that I'm not sure that its the "exact drink", it did give the drink red color but it was more like a pink grapefruit color » Spoilers Show/Hide (Note: used 1/2 tbs grenadine in the pic)
I did try adding more but it didn't give it that red color as in the photo from the mana bar. I stopped at 2 teaspoons and its what I'm currently drinking right now as I type this and its quite good despite not being the same color as in the photo it just got a darker pink color.
What does it taste like? I bet you're wondering well I found the drink to be refreshing. It's sweet and you can taste the ginger and lime but they are not strong flavors but fairly light. I don't taste the vodka but then again I'm use to strong drinks so your mileage may vary. Personally I think that the grenadine is masking the vodka flavor so do be careful if you chose to add more vodka since 2oz of vodka is about 2 shots worth. The drink that I made didn't have that spicy pepper flavor from the tobacco at first, it was only after I drank some that I notice the hot sauce.
Ingredients:
lime juice
vodka (note: it says they use Kettle one vodka, look I like you guys but not enough to buy a $30 bottle of vodka. So I used Gordan's $10. » Spoilers Show/Hide
ginger
grenadine » Spoilers Show/Hide
Tabasco sauce
Final measurements are:
1 oz lime juice
2 oz vodka
8 oz of ginger beer
1/2 tsp pulverized ginger » Spoilers Show/Hide
1 1/2 tsp or 2 tsp of grenadine
Tabasco to taste (I put in 2 dashes)
Directions:
Put in the lime juice, vodka, grenadine ginger beer and ginger in the glass and stir together. If you chose to be fancy and use a cocktail shaker DO NOT shake with the ginger beer. It's carbonated and would make a big mess if you shook it. Instead stir it in. Next add Tabasco to taste then add ice.
Final thoughts
I liked the drink but I don't think its what they serve at the mana bar. Unfortunately I don't have a grand or two lying around to pay for a flight to Australia to try the drink for myself. If anyone has any thoughts or suggestions I'd love to hear them as I'm stumped on how to get that red color or if you think I'm using the wrong recipe. I hate to say this but I think the drink I made is more of a girl's drink since it is sweet and there is not really any vodka taste to it. So until it can be proven otherwise I dub this version Nina Windia I
Enjoy!
Oh and for a non alcoholic version just omit the vodka and it taste almost the same, although I would cut back on the grenadine some since 2 tsp. is pretty sweet.
