The Legend of Dragoon Thread 2: Electric Boogaloo

Glad to see the boards are back up. I'm loathe to type out my entire first post again, so I'll try to shorten it this time...

So, the Legend of Dragoon has been put on PSN recently (for like $5, good deal for a good game). Grab it if it's an old favorite, or grab it if you want my recommendation for a good (albeit dated) jrpg!

I'm playing through it on the PSN, and I feel like there are a few slight differences. Mostly in dialogue, and some lines sound like they were directly translated, so they're almost "out of place". Everything else is pretty much exactly how I remember it, though. To spark conversation, I'll pose a few questions, and give my own answers to said questions, but let's get everyone who posts to answer these questions and make even more conversation!

    1) Favorite Dragoon Spell/Form/Addition.
Well, arguably the most USEFUL is Albert, halving all damage for the entire team for 3 rounds. But if I had to choose a favorite, it'd be Rose. A nice mix of attack spells, a healing, party-wide "drain" spell thrown in for good measure, and a way to instant-kill non-boss enemies. With her speed and attack animation, I think she's my favorite Dragoon overall.

    2) Favorite non-Dragoon Addition
Albert's Flower Storm, hands down. It's fast, but the counterattack timing isn't really difficult. It just feels good to pull off a full combo with him.

    3) Favorite party set up
Used to be Dart, Rose, Albert. Now I think I'm going with Dart, Meru, Kongol. At least, until endgame. I'm learning to appreciate Kongol, since he used to be COMPLETELY useless without the knowledge of how to gear him up. Kongol + Legend Casque + Bandit's Ring + Bandit's Shoes = Tankiest, fastest bruiser in the game, able to shrug off even magic damage without a second thought. His damage stays the highest until around the middle of disc 4, I think, when other characters finally start to overtake him if they're given a similar set-up.

Yes, giving him those particular pieces of gear can be seen as a waste, as other characters benefit from them as well, but my point wasn't to prove that Kongol can overtake them. It was just to show that Kongol can be made useful.

    There is hoping, my friends:

    http://www.ownt.com/sony-renews-trad...nd-of-dragoon/

More than 12 years following its release on the PlayStation one, Sony Computer Entertainment America renews their registered trademark for the four-disc epic The Legend of Dragoon.
Sony has long stayed silent about the future of this title, having even kept its potential sequel under wraps until it was officially cancelled not too long ago. In May of this year, The Legend of Dragoon was released on the PSN as one of Sony’s classics during their initiative to drive digital content. Since then, it has sold respectably well, lending credence to a possible future. Whether Sony intends to remake the original, resurrect the sequel, or adapt the IP into another product (possible character or stage in PlayStation All Stars: Battle Royale) is yet to be seen.
The Legend of Dragoon launched in 2000 to mixed reviews, but has since become a cult classic. It follows the main character, Dart, who sets out to rescue his kidnapped childhood sweetheart, Shana, after their village is razed to the ground by the Emperor Doel. Dart soon discovers that he has inherited the powers of the Dragoon, a knight of myth and legend, as he must now prepare himself for the war that is about to begin.
Sony has renewed the trademark, I´m thrilled to see what they are going to do with it.
(could also be for a cameo in PS Allstars).

I actually just replayed this game during the summer - I played the original disc while my friend downloaded it off PSN. I don't recall any differences, but it's not like we played side by side, I suppose.

    1) Favorite Dragoon Spell/Form/Addition.
I really like Meru's Dragoon form. She has really good healing spells along with some useful attack ones. Rose would be a second favorite, but her drain spell really doesn't do much good once you get to disc 2 or 3.

    2) Favorite non-Dragoon Addition
Rose's final addition kicks major ass. I can't recall the name of it though; Demon's Dance? Maybe?

    3) Favorite party set up
I used Dart, Rose and Meru. To be honest, aside from dragoon battles, Meru wasn't useful - I just used her because I really like her character. I believe in my previous gameplay I used Albert instead. This time around I used Haschel for a while. He's pretty useful also. He's really fast, and his punches do quite a bit of damage.

The name of the thread got me excited. I really wish they'd do a sequel... I believe I heard somewhere one almost went into production but then didn't get funded? That could easily just be a rumor.

If the game did get another installment I know that I, along with many other fans, would really enjoy a prequel. The original did a good job creating a detailed history, but there are still holes and events I would like to play through myself. But you know, I'd be happy with even a remake. Better graphics and a better translation would make a gorgeous game, and I'm sure a lot of the old fans would want to get back into it. I know when I said on facebook that I was replaying it a bunch of closet fans appeared out of the cracks, haha.
