    Wii U

Anyone planning on getting one of these? I doubt I will waste my money. I know little about them, but I am highly intrigued by the fact Grand Theft Auto Five is supposedly going to be one of the early titles for the system. The whole concept of a touch-screen in the controller is strange to me however, I really don't see that working out so well... a case of a neat but not so practical idea that comes off gimmicky even for Nintendo.

I don't know, it seems like it has a lot of potential, but I thought the same thing about the Wii. I know most people love it, but I just was never impressed with it or any of the games for more than a few good hours of gameplay. I guess it's just personal preference, lots of people find shooters (esp, Halo) and slashers (Ninja Gaiden) boring, but I love em. The Wii U seems like it would have a lot of appeal to other people. The stylus would be very enticing if i didn't already have a Wacom Intuos (I have a Cintiq, it's overrated IMO), so its merits fall really short in my eyes, but then again I'm am not the consumer they are catering to. Honestly, I don't know that I'll even bother buying a next gen console at all, they are obsolete before their designs are even finalized, and all this talk of putting an end to second hand gaming via DRM is a HUGE turn off, what a crock of shit.

I'll admit that LoZ tech demo at E3 looked pretty baws. I'll just have to wait and see if Sony, MS or Nintendo actually deliver something I'm willing to fork out the cash for, I'll remain a cynic until then.

I doubt I'll worry about buying any of it either. They will have to release a title that is very compelling before I'll fathom it. The next installments of the classic Series such as LoZ, Metroid, SMB, etc etc. Otherwise it wont be worth the money it will all probably cost, to be honest.

I wonīt be getting one right away, I will watch and see how the overall situation develops. If there are decent games out there, there is enough third party support
and I happen to get a good deal someday, then I might buy one. The inbuilt screen in the gamepad also appears to be a bit awkward IMHO.

Yeah, the screen controller thing came off extremely gimmicky and redundant. I'm sorry, but I'm old school! I prefer the old fashioned games I guess. Then again if they have anything like LoZ Four Swords THAT might be interesting and it MIGHT be worth it then... but not until a few years have passed perhaps when the price drops. Until then, I'm remaining skeptical and staying away.

which is a reasonable thing to do.
I did not buy the PS 3 right away as it was far too expensive in the PAL region when it was released a few years ago (around 700€).

The launch line-up includes a few "core gamer" titles such as Assassinīs Creed III, Darksiders II or Mass Effect 3.
I will stay put for a while and watch how it develops... Nintendo and core-gamers as target group? Hard to believe....

Even if Nintendo did try to target that particular demographic they'd probably ruin the games with gimmicky control systems that require touch screens and motion controls. Personally I hate that., hence why I wonder if I'd bother even if they did something drastic like that.

I think a lot of the problem with games today is the general devolution of society. As technology grows the need for human brain power diminishes, the tech does all the thinking for us. Nintendo's specific problem is their main consumers are families with young children easily influenced by their gimmicks.

I'm going to wait until there's games I want to play, also, I think it comes with normal controllers too, maybe. I haven't been paying attention to the Wii U's development lately.

I already got mine pre-ordered. I'm mainly excited for Monster Hunter Ultimate and Pikmin 3 as of now.

Monster Hunter and a new Zelda might be worth a purchase...

    Still not fully convinced

Probably going to get mine this year. New console means a new metroid game.

People are so afraid of change. I don't see what's "gimmicky" about it. I've been waiting for someone to put a touch screen on a controller for 4 years now.

A gimmick is something that sells for a few weeks, months if you're lucky, then disappears. I don't see that happening. And the only Nintendo game I've been disappointed in was mario sunshine. That's a good average for 20+ years.

I can see exactly al lthe things they can apply this technology to. Unfortunately, most people are unable to, so they figure it can't possibly do anything better than what they already have.

Anymore if it has motion controls and a touch screen people will buy it for the simple fact that it is the popular thing with video games (and for the latter, technology in general) right now. If not Touch screens and/or motion controls that sell it is MMORPGs, whatever happens to be popular. Motion-sensor controllers followed the trend with the PS3 as well. That is why I feel it is gimmicky. More than likely (though yes, this is all speculation) Sony's answer and perhaps Microsoft's answer will also feature touch-screen controllers, depending on how popular the Wii U is.

As far as being afraid of change goes, that's not my problem personally. I just don't see the point in fixing something that isn't broken. Of course we're talking a business here serving the general public who crave new, 'shiny objects' so to speak. So it makes perfect sense to bring in all the new technology if you're looking from the perspective of the people making the money, so there you go *Shrug*.

I suppose in the end it really comes down to personal preference/opinion (Same difference). I'm not one to care about technology, for that matter I'm not worried about how great the graphics are either. In the end I just want a game with a great story that's enjoyable to play, I'm not worried about how good it looks or whatever else. That being said I can deal with motion controls and touch screens if they are applied correctly and do not end up becoming a liability (Ala Castlevania: Dawn of Sorrow). I'd be compelled to buy the Wii U if the games have true quality to them that go beyond stellar graphics.
